One of the most important features of Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the ability for direct interaction between the company and its customers. This interaction goes far beyond a simple “like” — it allows customers to rate the business, leave comments, post photos or videos, ask questions, and assign a score based on their experience.

The rating system is star-based, as follows:

⭐ 1 star = Poor

⭐⭐ 2 stars = Fair

⭐⭐⭐ 3 stars = Average

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars = Good

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars = Excellent

The company’s overall rating is automatically calculated based on the arithmetic average of all received reviews. The higher this average, the better your profile tends to rank in local search results.

However, what many business owners don’t realize is that it’s not just the rating that matters. The textual content of reviews is also analyzed by Google and can influence search results. In other words, the words your clients write in their reviews directly contribute to your business’s visibility in searches.

For example, if a customer writes, “Agency X is the best marketing company in New York,” Google may highlight terms like agency, marketing, and New York in search results for those keywords. This significantly boosts your business’s organic reach.

Therefore, it’s essential to encourage your clients not only to leave a rating but also to write a detailed comment about their experience with your company. Every word counts — literally.
